SMS code not received? Troubleshooter
If a verification code never arrives, the cause is almost always one of five things: the app rejected the number type, you hit a rate limit, the code went to another device or channel, a phone filter hid it, or the number format is wrong. Pick the app and your situation below to get the fixes in the order most likely to work.
The most common reasons a verification SMS never arrives
- The number type is rejected. WhatsApp, Google, Discord and banks check the number range at sign-up and refuse many VoIP and recycled numbers. The app may say the code was sent even when it was never delivered.
- Rate limits. Requesting a new code too often triggers a cool-down. Each extra attempt can make it longer, so stop and wait.
- The code goes somewhere else. Telegram sends codes to your other logged-in devices first, and many apps offer a voice call or email instead of SMS.
- Phone-side filters. Spam filters, blocked senders, Do Not Disturb, roaming rules or a full inbox can hide or drop the message.
- Wrong format. Enter the country code once and drop the national leading 0, for example +44 7700 900123 rather than +44 07700 900123.
When to change the number
If the app says the number "cannot be used" or "is not supported", waiting will not help: the number itself is refused. Use a mobile number from a route that the app accepts. Ucode rents private mobile numbers by service, and the credits are refunded automatically if no code arrives.
FAQ
Why am I not receiving my verification code by SMS?
Usually the app rejected the number type (VoIP or reused numbers), you hit a rate limit after several requests, or a phone filter hid the message. Check the format, wait out any timer, and try the voice call or email option.
Why does WhatsApp say the code was sent when nothing arrives?
WhatsApp confirms the request, not the delivery. If the number range is refused or the route fails, no SMS arrives. Use the "Call me" option after the timer, or a mobile number WhatsApp accepts.
How long should I wait before requesting a new code?
Wait for the full timer the app shows. Requesting again early can cancel the previous code and lengthen the cool-down, sometimes to several hours.
Do free receive-SMS websites work for verification?
Rarely. Their numbers are public and reused for thousands of sign-ups, so most apps block them, and anyone can read the code.
